Holiday Decor That’s Hot for 2025

Yes, it’s the most magical time of the year but it’s also the most stressful for some of us (ahem, moms). If you’re the person in your home who is responsible for the holiday shopping, wrapping, menu planning and social calendering you’ll know that thinking about decor is not magical at all but instead it’s just an additional chore.

I want to ease the burden and share the trends so that you can skip the planning step and go straight to the decorating. There are a few trends that we see emerge every year for holiday decorating. In 2025 we see two trends emerge as the biggest - vintage decor and bows. These are going to be seen everywhere but there are a few other relevant trends so if you want to get on top of this year’s hottest look, read on.

Here’s What’s Trending in 2025 Holiday Decor

1/ Oversized Bows

It’s no surprise to me that bows are topping the list of 2025 holiday decorating trends. The last year or two has seen an explosion of bows in fashion. Fashion trends tend to trickle down into interiors a couple of years later so this is fully expected.

Bows are an affordable way to hop on a trend because you can buy a roll of wide ribbon and create your own or you can purchase just a few. Oversized bows are so impactful so you really don’t need more than a few to have a significant influence on your holiday decor.

How To Incorporate Bows Into Your Holiday Decor

  • add an oversized bow to a simple green wreath for a fast and easy pop of holiday cheer on your front door.

  • Hang 4 or 5 bows from your bannister to create some holiday vibes in those in-between spaces like hallways that don’t usually get much attention when we’re decorating.

  • Attach them to the back of dining chairs for a festive dining room. If you need new chairs for your holiday table but don’t know where to start, read this post.

  • Add a bough of greens across your mantel and decorate it with a few bows for additional holiday emphasis.

  • Hang a large bow in a window but be sure to find bows that are finished on both sides.

2/ Vintage Decor

If you’ve been hanging onto your grandma’s holiday ornaments then you’re ready for this trend. In 2025 we’re ditching the brand new, shiny plastic ornaments and instead we’re going for all the things that take us back in time. Here are a few ways you’ll see this trend show up in our homes.

  • Vintage Ornaments - this is the easiest and most accessible way to incorporate vintage into your decor. Whether you have access to family heirlooms or not, you’ll find these ornaments available in thrift stores, vintage shops and estate sales. They’re often very delicate so you may not want them on your tree but you can fill a large bowl or an oversized glass jar for an instant display.

  • Vintage Villages - maybe you’re old enough to remember your mom displaying colourful and well lit tiny, snowy villages on a bed of a cotton batting. These are going to be adorning our homes this year so if you’re been hanging on to your own village this is the year to bring it out.

  • Vintage Ceramics - from mugs to plates to holiday animals like deer and chipmunks we’re going to be getting a dose of cute this year. Remember the ceramic snowman with the rosy cheeks or the Santa with a sly little smile from your own childhood? You’ll be seeing all of these and more this holiday season.

  • Oversized Vintage Objects - I love the look of vintage sleds at Christmas. They feel reminiscent of the Rockwell-era of paintings showing us kids in the snow pulling their sled behind them. If you have one that’s been hidden away in your garage this is the year to let it shine. Lean it up on your front porch and add some greenery and a bow and you’ll have an easy and impressive holiday display.

3/ Tartan and Plaid

This trend is also referred to as Ralph Lauren Christmas since they are the masters of plaid and it’s going to be a huge holiday trend for 2025. A lot of us have a few plaid or tartan pieces of clothing that we pull out during the holidays because it’s such a quintessential holiday pattern.

Now we’re going even further and we’ll be seeing it everywhere in our homes during the holiday season. The easiest and most powerful way to incorporate this trend is by adding a tartan or plain tablecloth and napkins to our table but it’s not limited to the table.

Tartan pillows and throws are a fast and easy way to add this into your decor without having to invest in decor that will be packed away after Jan arrives. They’ll be perfectly at home all winter if you want to keep them out.

Those bows that I mentioned earlier could incorporate two of this year’s holiday trends if you choose bows in plaid ribbon. And if you love the look of tartan and plaid but don’t want to invest in any holiday decor you can opt for wrapping paper instead. This will give your home the look of Ralph Lauren but without investing in holiday decor pieces.

4/ Multi Coloured Lights

In keeping with this step back in time we’re seeing those multi-coloured lights from the past take centre stage. After such a long time of white lights being the de facto standard we’re now ready to embrace colour again.

Of course, kids have always been fans of the coloured lights so they’ll be extra excited to see the streets lit up this year. This trend includes strands of lights with multiple colours and not just a string of single colour like blue or red lights.

We’re using this outside on our house and trees but it’s also making a reappearance on the inside of our home as well. If you’re planning to buy a new string of lights for your tree this year, make it multi-coloured.

5/ Maximalist Decorating

This one should come as no surprise after reading about the other trends. We’re definitely moving away from the neutral palette and Scandinavian style that embraces texture and tranquility and we’re embracing a more-is-more philosophy.

If you’re always having to use restraint to stop yourself from doing too much you should be thrilled with this year’s return to abundance (at least in decor). And don’t overcomplicate things when deciding how to make this look work. It’s really just about embracing whimsy and fun when it comes to decorating.

What are the trends you’ll be embracing this year? And if you’re not sure what your holiday theme will be this year I hope these ideas get your creative juices flowing. From all of us at Interior Designs by Adrienne we wish you the happiest holiday season yet!
